Hello everyone,
I'm a new member needs help identifying Ballys machines.
I just bought two Bally 5 lune machines
One from Golden Nugget and the other from Tropicana.
.
Think I'm a little crazy as these were an impulse buy.
I thought I could clean them up and get them working. (Slowly)
Or at least they will look good in my man cave.
I work IT and know mechanics, so it might not be so bad.

Can anyone help identify the model, the side plates don't make since to the numbers don't match anything I read so far. I'll read thur a manual that came with them and slowly rebuild them.

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, you really don't have Bally machines. Your machines were converted by Summit Systems. That makes it more difficult to work on them. I believe there was a company in California that used to repair those PCB's. I don't know if they still do that. You best bet may be to swing over to https://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php. They deal with the newer type games over there.

63 is Right. summit, purchase a bunch of bally slot machines and Convert them to electronic to eliminate a hand full of Electro mechanical parts

The price was GREAT. but I've owned summit machines and I would have said RUN

Too bad they were not stock ballys,,, there bullet proof and last forever

Things you can do to get these machines going include:

Clean excess lithium grease off the mechanical potions of the mech and put a few drops of 3 in 1 non detergent oil in all locations that pivot or move. Everything needs to move freely.

Take a pencil eraser and rub it in the 'gold' areas of the mpu and solenoid driver cards that are located in the center front of the main front side of the mechanism. Do both sides. Then spray some electronic cleaner into the edge connector the cards plug into putting the card in and pulling it out 10 or so times while the cleaner is present. On the main mpu card you can partially remove and reseat the chips that are on a bridge to help make sure they have good connections. Just be gentle.

While you have the main mech or if the machine cleaning and lubricant, clean the plug connectors coming out the back that plug into the cabinet when you install the mech. You can use a brass brush on those connectors as well as some emery cloth. Take decor and spray into the female connectors then install and remove the mech 10 or so times. You can also use airbrush tip cleaners(basically they are small round wire brushes and can be found at harbor freight) to clean the female boe plugs if the above method doesn't clean them good enough.

Move on to the Hopper. Give it a cleaning but give the male and female connectors on it the same attention as the mech.

The other main issue of these machines are the power supplies located to the right of the 2 cards in the front center of the main mech. A secondary problem that can arise is the eprom containing the personality/payout of the machine has lost its data leaving the machine unplayable. Solutions for either of these situations can be found in the link in the previous post.

I'm in luck because both machine have no batteries and the EPROMs, so hopfully no circuit board damage.
the Tropicana one actualy powered on but scared to power on the golden nugget until I replace the power cable.

Of course, I am hoping to make the Golden Nugget the winner as that’s where my mom and dad honeymooned in the late 70s.
So, this could be a machine that was installed then. {Yes, I understand it pronally wasn't}

Yet, I like learning new things and I have a weekend job that the unofficial policy is; if it can be carried in and doesn’t transmit signals and if there is nothing to do then your time is your time as long as your there. Last summer I bought a lot of 50 pocket watches, learned how to fix them. I fixed maybe 20 and tripled my money selling them.

Has anyone had experimented with changing the fluoresent & DC lighting to LED or are the boards Ohm sensitive like in the C4 corvette? Me and a buddy changed the dash lights to LED and the lower resistance blew the Body control module.

Ulitimate goal is to have nice decrotive (no electronics) penny or nickle (dime or quarter) machine.
Hopfully from the Golden Nugget or the Sands Casino as that is where my parents where married and honeymooned.

If you suspect the MPU board or the IO board, I have tested, working replacements for them.

The EPROM is specific to your Summit machine, so you'd need to use that on the replacement MPU board.

Let me know. I have several along with the power supply cages.
