Mills Lions Head payout slide stuck

Postby bigmac9128 » Thu Aug 01, 2019 8:19 am

I have a Lion Head machine that is not paying out. It appears that the payout slides get stuck all the way forward (toward the front of the machine). I can sometimes manually release the top slides by pulling back the horizontal payout levers (brass colored) but not the bottom two steel ones. Any ideas?

Remove the mechanism and turn it on its side. Look for a loose coin retarding the lower slides from any movement, and also inspect for a coin jam within the slides.

This is the exact problem I'm having on the exact Lions Head machine. I've totally emptied the coin tube and made sure nothing was jamming the slides but still not paying out when I refill the coin tube and force a payout on the reels

I took your advice and found no jam. It seems that the payout slides operate perfectly when the reel bundle is removed, but not with the reel bundle in place. Attached is a photo of the slide position when it gets stuck. It moves 1/8th inch or so before jamming up. It seems like the one of the horizontal fingers (perhaps the bottom?) are not moving out of the way.

I am so frustrated. Parts may soon be available on the driveway below my workshop window.

You might check out the payout fingers. With the payout working without the reel bundle it would lead me to believe this may be a possible area to look. They can get bent, just went through straightening one myself.

IF YOU DO NOT GET IT WORKING TRY SHIMMING THE SLIDE POSTS OR IF YOU HAVE NO SHIM STOCK LOOSEN THE TOP FOUR SCREWS AND PLAY IT TO SEE IF THE SLIDES MOVE THEN. IT COULD BE A BENT SLIDE COVER.
