Sega Diamond

Postby capt7310 » Thu Sep 26, 2019 9:27 am

Just picked up this Sega from a garage sale. The owner said it's been in his family from the early 70's, but he thinks it took dimes at one time but they switched to pennies because the dimes got stuck. You can see on the front it has 6D. I've tried to get an exact denomination of what the machine is but I keep getting different answers from google sites. Unfortunately like most he lost the key and it's a tubular lock, so I can't get into right yet and it's jammed. If anyone has the answer let me know. Thanks

The British sixpence coin (6d) dates back to the reign of Edward VI and was in circulation until 1980.

It was APPROXIMATELY the size of a US penny.
This machine SHOULD work ok on pennies, but will have problems with dimes.
Recommend that, once you get it open and working, go to a coin show and stock up on sixpence coins, also called tanners.
Coin collectors usually consider most of them junk and should sell pretty low.

i picked up a Sega Bell 6d last year, a very smooth running machine. US pennies worked very well in the escalator and payouts although you may get an extra penny paid out at times.

HI

The 6d coin is 19.41 mm
The US penny is 19.05 mm

Should work with no problem.

A good locksmith should have the tool to open the lock without drilling it. You may have to take it over if they will not come to your place. It's a neat tool, if you can watch it's like spinning the dial on a safe.

Ya need one of these puppies for a tubular lock, Ace, Gem, Etc.
Gonna be next to impossible with the pin!
You won't be able to keep tension on the core while you try to set the pins!
Bona Fortuna!

Is this a barrel lock.? Look on YouTube. Just watched a video where they opened a barrel lock with a straw. In the past I remember these opened with a bic pen.
Lots of lock picking videos on YouTube.

Finally got the back door open and it is super clean loaded with US pennies, but unfortunately all the wiring has been removed for the lighting system. So should I just remove everything associated with the lighting or which I would like to do is try and rewire and get it back working but don't think I will be able to find what's needed. I would need a pic of the set up. I found some pics of the inside and it kind of looks like a lot of parts missing. Any thoughts Thanks
