My Jennings 5c Star Chief has a number of small incandescent lights My machine has a "tower" on top and there's a white and red light in it. Those two lights stay on all the time. My guess is that is not correct, that the light should perhaps come on upon a jackpot.

Am I right on this?

Does anyone have a wiring diagram that they would be willing to share with me?

The White light if used in a casino environment was usually a Change Light to summon a change girl and would normally be controlled by a switch either on the casting of the slot machine or in rare occasions on the cabinet surface the slot machine sat on, usually a bank of slot machines!
The Red light was normally for signaling a Jackpot and would have lite in combination with an internal bell!
And, no they would not be on unless the change switch was on or a Jackpot was hit!
For the jackpot a micro switch either on the vertical pay finger assembly or located by the payout slides would have triggered it as well as the bell!
Pretty simple to just follow the wires and see where their power source is coming from!
To confirm this above a photo of the slot machine you are mentioning would help as well to establish the particular model you are speaking of!

Here's a picture of my Jennings five cent slot. I can take pictures of the inside guts of it. There's no external switch to summon a casino worker. No internal switch either. No holes in the case that I could see, didn't check the bottom. The machine is sitting on an old victrola case.

I posted your photo here so the link is not necessary to view it!
Very nice slot machine and as Jennings had different models called the Star Chief this photo clarifies the model you have!
That model with the Top Marque was usually called the "Governor"!
Each casino had their own lighting configuration on the "Candle" and this one probably used a different color for each Jackpot as to amount!
Mostly for security reasons so the Floorman and/or slot supervisor could see how many jackpots were hit on a particular slot machine from a distance to make sure a slot cheat or "Cross Roader" was not manipulating a particular slot machine!
As to the wiring, follow the wires in the cabinet from the candle and see if they go to a micro switch of some type either on the vertical payout finger assembly or the payout slides!
One wire would go to a drop down transformer and the line voltage for each bulb should go thru a switch so as to designate the different payouts, this probably would have been done by a group of switches on the vertical payout finger assembly rather than on the payout slide assembly!
It is possible a previous owner of the slot machine reconnected the wired so the lights were always on for home usage!
Internal photos would clarify this!

Monty, thanks so much for the advice! I followed the wires, and there's two internal switches in there that's activated by the machinery to close the circuit. One of the switches was closed. I used a nail file and gently buffed out the contacts and made sure that the switches were in the open position, to be closed by the machine.

The both of the lights in the candle continued to stay on.

The next place I looked for a complete circuit was in the connector from the machine to the frame. Sure enough, inside the connector is two wires that complete the circuit to the candle. Inside the connector, there are two screws on the male side. Both of the wires had come off the screws and was loose in there, touching ground thus completing the circuit and illuminating the candle lights.

My problem all along was in that connector. Everything is running perfectly now!
