Buckley Numbers trade stimulator

Working on a Buckley Numbers trade stimulator, which has a mechanism similar to the more common Cent A Pack trade stimulator. The issue is the middle reel will not spin, and the spinning of the middle reel is necessary for the mechanism to reset for the next play. The sequence of the cycle are as follows: Enter coin, pull handle down, a lever is moved forward to spin 1st and 3rd reel, and at same time the lever moves a cam follower (similar to a pitman roll) forward into position onto a cam, which at the appropriate time will release the cam follower and spin the 2nd reel in a reverse motion. The problem is that the cam is not releasing this cam follower. At the end of the cycle the 1st and 3rd reels did spin. If I then push the lever further forward the cam follower will be released and the 2nd reel will spin. I assume there should be a spring loaded device that would push the lever forward sufficiently to release the cam follower thus allowing the 2nd reel to spin in unison with 1 and 3. A close up photo of the mechanism with these components would be greatly appreciated.
