Rol A Top

Postby fredslilja » Fri Oct 16, 2009 3:00 am

Hi everybody :D

I just found this forum and I hope someone could help me with my questions. I am a beginer on slots.

I have bought a Rol A Top Checkerboard in quite bad shape, altough it is in this shape I prefer it, because I enjoy restoring.

It works, so I presume the mecanism is ok.

I probably have many questions later on but I start with this:

On the front below the jackpots there is no text. All Rol A Tops that I have seen on internet have the text "TWIN JACK POT No1 No2". At first I tought it was shrewd away but at a closer look there is no trace of text what so ever. Is it possible that my machine was made without this text?

Another thing I wonder about is the handle/knob. Could this be original or is this from later in time?

I have more questions later on, but this for now.

I will try to add some pictures.

Any information of the machine or advice before I start my project is most welcome.

I have the same machine that is all original and your red part on the handle is not original and the front casting could be a recast or a repro.
attached is a photo of mine.

Original poster had a problem adding this photo. He emailed it to me so I put it in the thread.

The problem was the bulleting board software had reached the maximum limit for photos. I have increased it so people should now be able to post photos again.

Some pictures of the inside

Postby fredslilja » Fri Oct 16, 2009 9:48 am

Some pictures of the inside to settle if the front casting could be a recast or a repro. I am certain that the priewiest owner have had it sins the early 70s located in Sweden and haven´t done anything with it so, for that reason I am a little sceptical to recast or repro.

I think the castings are original and have original paint.

I think the stuff below the twin jackpots have been ground off.

Notice there is no paint whatsoever where the missing stuff is.

Good luck with the restoration, you have got a real project on your hands.

I have only seen pictures of how the text below the jackpot looks like. That way it was hard for me to come to that conclusion.

OK, any suggestion how to deal with this text problem? I would rather escape the thought about grind the area and paint it over. The area for the text is the same as the hole front. Get a new front, a repro? is it expensive?

The letters how do they look from the side? Maybe someone could add a picture?
