Daval Marvel

I'm new to this site, and don't have much of a collection - just a Daval Marvel and a Mills Diamond Front.

Regarding the Daval, maybe someone can help me. It is probably just a typical Daval. It is a light metallic green with three reels and a red plastic knob. Reels have plums, oranges, lemons, etc., plus Daval bars. There is a lock on the left side and on the back. The inside tube is full of brass tokens, stamped American Eagle and either the number 10 or 15. Machine appears to operate OK with nothing broken. Now for my question.

There is a coin slot (I think) on top, but that's all it is - no housing or cover over the slot. Internally, there seems to be no mechanism to accept a coin. You can pull about 20 times, then you have to reset it by turning the key on the side. There is a window on the lower left side that shows a token when a winning combination is hit. Above that there is another window with a counter. On the inside, there is also a counter which seems to record knob pulls - that is now at about 35,000. There is no means by which a player gets a token. There is a spring loaded rod at the rear that is pushed to move the token from the window, and it drops to the bottom of the case.

What is this device supposed to do? It doesn't seem to be a very good way to stimulate trade, as there is no provision to feed it a coin, and no provision to dispense a token. Am I missing something? Or was a customer just allowed a free pull, and if he hit on a winning combination and a token dropped into a window,he got 10 or 15 of whatever was offered as a prize. If so, why was there a limit of 20 pulls?
