Mills Jackpot question

I recently acquired a Mills Horsehead Bonus machine. When I remove the mechanism and replace it into the case, I invariably trip the jackpot. What am I doing wrong? I can't fill the jackpot by hand.

The JP does not dump the reserve coins on next play; could this be a related problem? Thanks.

Ive never had a horsehead so im not up on that particular jackpot unit but it could be something very simple like the internal base plate is set too far forward,they usually have some adjustment for just this reason, this might also cause a problem with the reserve although reserve jackpots are always a problem on later mills machines and were often removed by operators because of the problems they caused
