How to tell if a Mills hi-top machine is original

Postby thughes7557 » Tue Aug 02, 2011 2:19 pm

How does one go about verifying a Mills Hi-top as being original, I'm aware of looking for matching #s on keys/locks, cash box,but what about serial #s on casting, mechanisms, etc? What needs to match in order to have an original machine if I choose to resell it down the road?

The owner of this forum (Dave) wrote a very good article regarding reproduction Mills machines. You might find some useful info there.

Bob,

Thanks for pointing me to the article, using some of the tips mentioned I feel comfortable moving forward buying a Mills Hightop Jewel 5 cent machine. Since this machine was made in the 40s I believe the serial# must be inside the casting, have asked the owner for the serial#, will feel much better after getting it. Finally, the base does not appear to have two nails but it does look worn and the edges are not smooth and sharp so I think its probably the original base. Thanks again!

Mills Jewel Bell

I am unaware of a Mills Jewell Bell Hi Top ever being reproduced. They survived in such large quantities that there was no point. Sega made reproduction Hi Tops but not the Jewell Bell to my knowledge. Would be curious if anyone has ever seen a reproduction Jewell Bell.
