MILLS SLOT MACHINE HELP

MILLS slot machine questions: When putting nickels in the machine, some drop straight down into that small metal box just under the right side of the escalator. Is that a cam or dog on the front right side of the escalator that should be adjusted to prevent this?
On a U tube video, it was suggested that after cleaning parts, they should be sprayed (all sides) with clear acrylic. Is this a good practice & why would you recommend this procedure?

That box is for collecting slugs.

The escalator is probably dirty. You should take it apart and clean it up.

You should not spray any part of the machine with the clear acrylic which has contact with coins. There is no need to use acrylic on any part unless the machine's mechanism has been bead blasted.

Some people want machine mechanisms bead blasted, others don't.

A few of the machines that may not have been "shopped" have most or all of the parts still attached to the escalator that prevented cheating, or loading the coin entrance with extra coins in order to cheat the machine. These little levers weighted or spring loaded will shuttle coins to the slug box. Because they are sensitive they are usually removed so they don't cause excessive service calls. How about posting a picture of your escalator, the right side is where these levers are located as you look at the machine from the back. If it looks dusty you might just try blowing some compressed air through it. Hope this helps a little. T.J.

The rounded triangular shaped piece with a screw in it has a U shaped magnet behind it. Also, when I took the escalator haves apart, there was a piece of black electrical tape inside, folded maybe 4 times, in upper left area. Because the metal box was empty when I got the machine, the tape may have been preventing the nickels from dropping. Your advice is appreciated.

could be thats its not the moving parts of the escalator that are causing you a problem, the passage that takes the coin to the first coin detector might be worn (in fact it certainly is if the esc is old) sometimes this can change the width of the passage to change and the machine thinks the coin is a slug, this would account for the tape put in to overcome the problem. The magnet cover is usually slightly adjustable,try moving this to change the passage of the coin, simply shutting the slug escape will do the trick
