COCA Convention and latest find

Postby Dave » Sun Aug 25, 2013 8:46 pm

Well, It is late Sunday night and I am pretty much exhausted.

The COCA convention was all day Friday and Saturday and Sunday morning.

My sister lives in the area so I stayed with her instead of at the hotel. I did not make the tour on Sunday morning because a high school buddy of mine lives only 10 miles from my sister and I hadn't seen him in 15+ years so I had breakfast with him. In addition, last Thursday I bought an entire collection up in NH and this afternoon I finalized (i.e., paid for) the deal and picked up the machines.

The convention on Friday and Saturday was an excellent event. The people who organized it did a fantastic job and I was able to view some incredible and rather humbling collections.

This was my first convention and based on this experience I would recommend that you give one a try if you have not already done so.

All in all it was a great experience. Of course, it didn't hurt that I was chasing a lead when I got here on Thursday and it turned out that I was able to purchase everything. :D

To get all the stuff from NH down to a storage locker in MA required my sisters SUV, her sons car, and my rental car.

Here are photos of the machines in the cars.

Here they are after we unloaded them into a storage shed.

They are now awaiting their journey to Denver.

Dave:
What a bunch of common junkers. Especially that Mills "Chicago"!
I can relieve you of this cumberson burden, if you'll give me the location of your storage unit, and send me the key. [-o<
I collect scrap-metal and wood pieces just like this. Will be awaiting your call.

After you get over being pissed at my comments, I would like the serial number on the "Chicago".
Nice find Dave........."REALLY".

Oh Yes! I forgot to mention, that I also collect Tokens, which I notice the previous owner used, instead of coins.
I see many collectors using tokens in their 3 reelers, but very seldom see them loaded in an Victorian Upright.

Bill:

Sorry, I can't add to your scrap metal collection.

I just traded it for a really rare Mills 3 reeler.

The machine has a top casting which looks like it is from a Castle Front and a bottom casting that looks like it is from a Futurity.

I was told it was a very rare machine and was custom ordered from Mills. The owner said that several Mills employees confirmed this. :D

I don't know how you could have found one like that, because some guy on ebay has that same machine. And his is the only one ever made! Wow, that's weird.

Are you kidding me, or what? #-o
You may want to check an earlier thread, that was covered pretty thoroughly about that Phoney listing.

Bill:

Well, the guy who had the 'rare' three reeler didn't do the trade because the Chicago was not as rare as his machine.

So, the pile of scrap metal is still available :D . I was going to send you the keys to the storage unit :^o but I see you are in CA and the stuff is in MA so it would be too much trouble for you to go get it.

Oh well, I will just have to ship all the stuff to Denver. It is actually in transit right now. The shipper picked up everything yesterday.

Now I just have to keep my fingers crossed and hope everything arrives undamaged.
