ANOTHER MACHINE BUTCHER

HAS anyone looked at some the machines being offered by BACKINTHEDAYCLASSICS from CARSON, CA?
they are putting feet on slots that never had them, which is no big seal... so far... as it's just a couple screw holes in the bottom,
but, they seem to have an idea that some of the machines need marquee's attached... on machines that never had them.
subsequently, relatively straight slot machines are being bastardized.
i don't know if it is the owner, the restorer, or who's idea it is but, eventually, they are going to screw up something really rare.

I don't think I've ever seen this. I was hoping that top sign was on the peg board in back of the machine but it's not. The Mills Operator Bell has a Caille upright "Play Nickels" top sign attached to it and he is asking twice what it is worth had it been untouched...........................Nice.

This is what I told the guy about the Mills "Operator Bell Owl" when I first seen it.
If you'll scan down to the Q&A area, you will see that he did place the notice, but he didn't add anything to the description,
which is where most people look.

Q: Jeff: It should be noted in your description, that the recast 'Play Nickels' sign that is screwed onto the top casting, is not
original, and should not be there. Someone has added it there to Pimp the machine. It's not even a Mills Mfg. casting. Those
castings were used ONLY on early Caille Mfg. Victorian Uprights.

I didn't notice the ridiculous "Baby Lincoln" til later, but didn't write him about it. Nor did I see those other atrocities. The
person that has put these Fantasy pieces together, must be sharing a workbench with the Vegas Butcher.
Maybe I'll ring his land-line about them. I don't think these items are the sellers. I think they are consignments. We'll see.

I surely wouldn't call the "backinthedayclassiccalifornia" seller
a butcher, seems a little harsh. Take a look at the other
stuff he has for sale, some pretty sweet vintage stuff. I
would love to roam around his warehouse. Everything
he has seems over priced, but he does
have "make an offer" on everything, so who knows
what it will go for. He seems like a reseller pretty
much.

true, he has a fabulous inventory, and, will draw a clientele with deep pockets, who have the potential to become serious collectors, but, once they find out they got a machine that is not right... they lose interest... just like potential future collectors who lose interest and drop out by finding out they got screwed with the purchase of a reproduction slot machine.
not only do these people butcher machines, they butcher the hobby, and, the future of the hobby by their actions.

I direct this to Beer4u-- and others who for some reason, when theyh see an item they like
their reply is looks overpriced.. I am an old time collector, back to 1980's. The only
insult you can give a seller is no offer.. Stop kicking tires make an offer, you would
b e surprised how often you will be the owner. I do not suggest buying junk, but do not
let the price scare you. I had placed a "machines for sale" add in our colinopcollectors ect.
A real nice penny duke at 3200, never got an offer, finally sold it for 2800. Not on e bay but at
a show (some one made me an offer)
