Hi Dave and everyone else.
I bought a machine in Washington D.C., a Jennings sun chef table model. Now I need to have it picked up and shipped to Seattle. outside of Eric shipping, any ideas on the cheapest way to do this? Forward air has been my best bet in the past, but this has to be picked up and boxed in maybe in a u-haul dish barrow box first. Know anyone who handles this kind of thing without costing millions of dollars?

WOW, your going to like this one, allied van lines only wants $961.20 to ship! So, far It looks like I am still with Eric. My problem is the boxing, seller will not do it. I'll look some more.

I've heard good and bad things about Eric's shipping regarding the safety of your shipment. I am fairly sure that his timetables can cause sometimes lengthy delays in delivery. I've had good luck with large items such as shuffle bowlers and diggers using North American Van Lines. They used to call it the High Value Department but recently changed the name. They don't require crating and I assume just blanket wrap things. With a slot being smaller, different rules may apply. Larger items like mine run about $350 to go from the coasts to Illinois. Maybe someone else can help with more info on them.

I've had good luck with Fed Ex Ground.

However, you need to understand that Fed Ex will NOT insure antiques. They will gladly take your money for the insurance but if you read the fine print they will NOT cover antiques.

I have heard lots of horror stories around the Big Brown Truck and I would never use them. Especially around Christmas time.

I have used Eric from Eric's Shipping and have had no problems. He took very good care of my machine. However, getting the machine from DC to Seattle might take awhile.

If the main problem is getting the machine put in a dishpack or crated then you might also try to contact a COCA member that lives in the area.

Perhaps you can convince him to go get the machine crate it and ship it.

Who knows, he might even know someone that is driving from DC to Seattle (stranger things have happened).

Log into the http://www.coinopclub.org/ web site. Go to the members list and contact Ken Durham. Ken lives in DC. Ken may have a contact that will ship your slot.

$961.20 is crazy. North American will do it for around $350. If you can persuade the seller to take it to a Pack & Ship type store they can do it for less. But I would get them on the phone and make sure they double-box it with peanuts and use FedEx Ground.

Also, I've had good luck with Navis pack & ship (www.gonavis.com). They will pick it up, pack it, and ship it by common carrier for very reasonable rates.
