I was just about to post a message suggesting that you look at the coin head and not the handle connections.
As you have found out, the coin head is VERY sensitive.
There are 9 coin sensors on the machine (6 for the points, one for field, one for 11, and one for the come) and if one of them is out of whack the machine will not function properly.
However, I have found that once you have the machine adjusted properly it will perform flawlessly.
