"Where It's At" (1969)

A Hollywood glimpse at how many mechanicals were still in service at a major casino in the late '60s. An interesting movie in its own right-- for all the wrong reasons-- and a little difficult to watch, just because it's so hard to think of David Janssen as anybody but "The Fuge."

I had purchased 30 of the late '70's Jennings 400 slots from Alan Sax some years ago. Planned on restoring them to make them all work properly, but never did, and eventually sold them to the Fox Studios a couple of years ago. They wound up being used in a movie "Bad Times At The El Royale" that was released in Oct. 2018. So not technically antique like the slots we are accustomed to (well, maybe they ARE considered antiques today!) they ended up as props in a "Reno" casino scene in the movie and were also used as backdrops in most of the rest of the movie. In this scene, you can see every machine being played - even though none of them are really functional - and the scene would have you believe it was a legit casino. The Jennings 400's have motor driven reels so they could make them spin, and the lighting was added (along with the graphics) by the studio to match set lighting. Click the link below.

Hoodlum Empire (1952):

You get a peek at the first slot at around the 57-58 minute mark (a real antique) and many more too-old-for-1952 models appear a little after an hour into the movie, in the "counting room." Looks and sounds like Hollywood was taking the newly-minted LBJ Act very seriously at the time.
