Well, as you know, a bunch of freaking Russians registered on the board and started spamming it with links to porn sites.

I have purged all of them and done some stuff to try and keep them out.

Hopefully they are gone for good.

The board is back online.

Yes... saw all that early this morning. @Dave Maybe (if you haven't already) make it so that anyone "new" registering for the site must wait to be approved before they can post?

OK, but how do I go about verifying they are not a spammer? I mean, ask them a question like are you a spammer? :D

FYI, their bots are still trying to spam the board but so far my counter measures are keeping them out.

Hopefully they will soon give up.

I don't know. But maybe just the delay in waiting for "approval" would be enough to put off a spammer, whereas a legitimate user would be willing to wait to become a part of this community.
But then.... It's still a gamble, isn't it?

The spammers are actually bots that are constantly trolling the web for forums. As soon as they receive permission they start spamming. They don't care if it takes 1 second or 1 year to get the approval.

When real people register it is usually because they have a question and they wouldn't appreciate being put on hold for a few days.
