Ebah or ebay

Postby sam2002 » Thu Feb 18, 2021 10:49 am

Just a heads up if you are selling on ebah, just finishing up a sale with that outfit, they charge 12.35 percent on what they describe as a final value fee, that is they charge sales tax to the buyer of your item and that gets added to the
“ final value fee” so you will pay 12.35 percent of whatever the sales tax is as well as 12.35 percent of the sold price and finally 12.35 percent of the shipping that you charge. Seems unfair that they charge FVF on sales tax and shipping, double dipping.
Double edged sword that ebah is!

Yep that's why I try and give my email addressed in a encrypted message, so eBay police don't bust me.

Plus I believe they charge a percentage of the shipping costs. All these reasons together are why I have not sold anything on ebah in 13 years. They are TOO dam greedy.

They didn’t use to but now they definitely charge the same percentage on shipping they do on the item. Then the buyer is upset with me because he thinks I’m gouging him on shipping.

FEEbay also charges commission on sales tax that you never receive, they collect it from buyer and submit it to the states,,,, USE Craigslist, Facebook marketplace or other!!!

It's pretty simple and all disclosed in the terms & conditions.

Basically, you pay $0.30 plus 12.35% of the total price (includes shipping and sales tax). I think they do this because people mess with fixed shipping prices that make no sense.
If you sell an item for $100 plus $20 shipping and taxes are 7%, the total price is = $128.40
$128.40 x 12.35% = $15.86 + $0.30 = $16.16 in eBay fees or about a 16% effective rate of the item sale price ($100)

If you don't like it, don't use it. I will say that most times I get higher prices for items on eBay than I would elsewhere so you may want to take that into consideration because you're reaching a larger market.

Heres another one for you, if ebah is so great why is it that ads are being ripped off on a daily basis say the buy it now price is $2000? I see papahog’s ads have been stolen this morning. So again how great can ebah be if this allowed to happen time after time? Just curious how you might feel?

Sam spot on! Here's another reason why Ebay (again my personal 2 cents) is not fair. The "buyer protection plan" which the buyer can say Hey! you didn't disclose that microscopic chip that only the Hubble Space Telescope can see and I want my money back and Ebay will lock your account and almost threaten to break your knee caps if you don't return the full amount and now you have to fight with Ebay to get your money back, and we all know you can say it wasn't shipped that way and I would never, the carrier probably caused it, blah blah blah...... give them back there money, now you take a loss and have to start the process over or just use Craigs, Facebook, Offers up or any other site and avoid the headache

I think YourBestBet is right on as far as fees and a broader audience. I think people get caught up in the bidding just like at auction houses and drive the price up. As for the buyer protection plan, I take as many detailed, in focus pictures as allowed by ebay. I show ANY defects no matter how small and mention it in the listing text as well.

One item i wanted to sell is an entry level key cutting machine (another hobby). These machines sell for $150 plus on ebay (when the ebay police actually allow one to finish) while on Craigslist or lock forums they don't even sell for $100. I'll take the extra $50 and happily give ebay $20 because I am still $30 ahead.

Ripping off peoples ads is a problem but allowed by ebay. I have had this happen to me and a couple of friends that sell on ebay have also been ripped off. The people that do this are really rotten. It sux but what do you do. This same thing could happen on Craigslist of Facebook so is not unique to ebay.
