Coin In Escalator Jumps Back

I have a Mills Melon Ball dime machine. The coin moves forward in the escalator as the arm is pulled. When the arm is released the coin moves back to the original position, the machines cycles and another pull without a new coin is allowed. If I hold the arm in the down position for a couple of seconds, then the coin remains forward.
Any suggestions?

Sounds like the advance bar is not being pulled far enough. If you move the advance bar by hand will the coin move to the next position? The bar you need to move is the one on top of the coins. That is the slide which moves the coins across. If the coins move when manually advanced then you have to bend the part the mech is pulling down. You need to bend it up to get movement on the advance bar. Be carefully when bending it up as that is a tempered part and bending it too far or too often will make it crack. A crescent wrench will work for bending it.
Hope this helps.

Thanks waitlingboy, You have got me on the right track. I see the connection between these 2 parts and I should be able to work it out.

I would bet if you cleaned the escalator it will start working.
Sounds to me like it is all gummed up with old grease.

Thank you for your suggestions. I am a novice so I appreciate the help. The escalator worked out of the machine so I thought it was the draw arm distance. That didn't work. I then soaked the escalator with a petroleum liquid and with paper towels and q-tips, I removed every bit of grease, dirt, grime. I especially cleaned the coin path by pulling the coin retractor panels upper and lower for access. I reassembled the machine and it works.
Thanks.
