I am looking at this on ebay and a couple questions come to mind, 1) what is the value of this slot 2) do the 40's slots have serial numbers in the casting like the 30's? and if not where would it be? I have found a lot of info on fakes and how to spot them but they are mostly on the 30's stuff, is any of it the same on the 40's slots?

In looking at this slot more it says Jewel on the front the other ones I have seen say Mills, which should it be?

I'm not the greatest expert and I'm sure people will put me right but this looks later than 1946, It is in very good condition and if it IS a rare model I guess $1000 is about right, in the UK ,just at the moment and on ebay it would not get more than $850. Id say 1950 and even then the arm is wrong(?) The Mills 'Melon front' hi-top 1948-51 has the same front top half.

Our friend from the UK is correct regarding the handle. Follow the above link for more photos. I'm not a slot collector but the photos may help.
