After the second listing of this machine, it failed to sell starting at $2500 plus SH.
The seller seems quite sure that the lamp was added back in the day "when this machine was on the QT."
I kind of doubt that.
It may have been added by an operator who had a dimly lit bar/club/etc and did not have many slots, so he wanted to draw attention to this poor little guy stuck off in a dark corner,
but that would tend to defeat keeping the machine on the QT and lessen its portability (a big advantage for QTs);
and it would have been a lot easier to light it by just sticking a lamp next to it.
Seems much more likely the lamp was added when the machine was picked up by some private collector/hobbyist.
Some guys just seem compelled to turn any unusual object into a lamp for their TV room.
Old gum ball machines are periodically seen as lamps.
I think years ago, there was a Coin Slot article about a rare Griffin peanut machine that was discovered as a lamp.
Just last weekend, I was at a guy's house;
he collects all sorts of stuff and has 3 slots (one of which, coincidentally, is a QT Chevron).
He paid top dollar for them, but that did not stop him from adding lights to all 3,
not to turn them into lamps, but adding small Christmas bulbs inside to illuminate the reels, jackpots, payout cups, etc.
I must admit, it looked kind of neat in a darkened room;
the only real damage he did was to drill a hole in the base of the machine for the cord to exit.
