VERY RARE Jennings slot

I've (politely) told this seller twice that the handle should return to the upright position after each play.
His photo shows the handle horizontal (pointing at player's belly button).
He's had "several collectors" look at it and insists that it is designed that way and functions properly as is.
I have never seen that before; perhaps that is what makes it VERY RARE.

I had noticed this earlier, and just figured it's jammed.
Upon closer inspection, handle appears to be a mills flat handle, and NOT a jennings gooseneck handle.
so, this appears to have had some bogus engineering going on here.
another fact to consider.... with the handle being in that location BEFORE play... there would have to be a slot cut in the table in order for the machine to be cycled.
he is in oakland... maybe bill from slot dynasty can straighten this guy out... and... find out who the local "experts" were that "enlightened / educated" him.

Good catch!
I did not even notice that was not a proper Jennings gooseneck handle.

Pointers like that (and Slot Dynasty catching the 2 fake Superiors that I fought were 1) are why it is so interesting to bounce this stuff off the experts;
the depth of knowledge and attention to detail available here is amazing!

It is a Mills handle. The reason it is in the down position is because the handle wasn't pulled up when the mechanism was inserted in the case. Also the machine has the wrong back doors.

It may be hard to believe, but I've had an exchange of emails with the seller and he clearly thinks the handle is supposed to be in the horizontal position between plays
and claims that the machine functions properly from that position.
He has it on consignment, appears he's clueless.

Of course if the handle were properly installed with return spring, it would automatically be in the upright position prior to installing the mech.

Maybe the slot just needs a dose of Viagra.

The seller has revised his listing to state that he now assumes the handle is not installed correctly.
He did not believe me when I told him that; perhaps one or more of you contacted him and were more convincing.

He also told me he had it on consignment.
His listing now states it has been in his family as configured for over 40 years.
I guess both statements could be true.
