Outrageous Auction Fees

Check out item http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/ws/eBa ... 0061827104

It is a penny Rol-A-Top (Coin Front), that sold at an auction in IL.

22.5% buyer's premium for Internet bidders and 20% for in-person bidding.

In addition, IL sales tax is 10.25%

I contacted the auction company before the bidding to see what the in-person juice was and they told me 20% .

Once I heard that, I didn't even bother contacting people that I know in the area.

The machine actually went pretty cheap, $3,000. So even after the $675 premium it looks like the buyer got a decent machine at a decent price (penny RATs are pretty hard to find).

I wonder how many other interested parties didn't bother with this auction because of the rediculous fees.

I know I would never give my stuff to an auction company that charged so much.

I wonder how much they took from the seller.

Dave the auction house is located in downtown Chicago. The tax as of 1 Jul is 11.25%. The tax is 1% higher in the central business district than the rest of the city which is 10.25%. This makes Chicago the highest in the country for sales tax.
