One of these just got listed on ebay.
I have had several of these over the years, and, all always had numbers on just 3 reels, which corresponded with the award card, and is correct, as shown on the one now on ebay (see link below).
My question is, and has been for years... WHY A 5 REEL MECHANISM, WITH ONLY NUMBERS ON 3 REELS?"
Has anyone ever come across one of these with symbols or numbers on all 5 reels?

Both the standard "Kelly", and the "Kelly Improved" came this way, with numbers on only three reels.
What their rationale was for this, I never did figure out. Only thing that I could ever come up with, was
Kelly Mfg. may have originally planned on doing a five reel poker, but changed their mind, because of
the Mills "Upright Perfection", and so many other poker versions at the time, that they decided to be
different, and only came up with the three reel numbers idea. I do admit, it is a bit strange, but the
reel configuration does match the award card. Besides, this style machine case would look even more
strange, if it were designed narrower. They could have also put numbers on all five reels, and
made the award card to match, but that's all history now.
I could also say something else, but I don't want to give anyone some new ideas. If you catch my drift!
