Fey Liberty Bell silver coin to be minted in Carson City!

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up about a great collectible I just heard about this afternoon. If you are a slot collector, you'll definitely want one...or more.

When I was in Carson City, NV last week to view the Fey Collection, I initially didn't realize the building I was in was the old Mint. Years ago, actual US coins were produced there. How appropriate for a slot machine display to be inside...they dispensed a lot of silver coins!

One of the original presses is housed there and they occasionally fire it up to make commemorative medallions, some out of real silver mined in Nevada. I was fortunate to see it in operation last week.

And I just found out today in an email from the Curator of History that they are creating a limited edition Fey Liberty Bell medallion to honor that great invention.

I was also told that Marshall (Fey) should be there during first round of production and will sign some of the accompanying literature.

I already pre-ordered two and should receive them in early May. If you are interested in buying some, read on....

We will most likely mint it for the first time on the last Friday, April 25, 2008. The last Friday of April falls during National Coin Week which we will be celebrating here at the museum. The medallion will be minted out of .999 Fine Silver and the cost will be $ 40.00 plus additional $ 5.00 for handling and mailing of the medallion. Do you know what the size & weight of the coin will be?

Also, do they have any pictures of what it will look like?

No idea size and weight but I assume they will be close to the other commemorative silver coins I bought there. Looks the size of a half dollar.
