what is the best way to free up old peanut machines that are frozen with salt etc?

depends upon how far you want to disassemble the machine and how badly corroded the parts are.

If you need to loosen the parts for disassembly I would recommend a high quality penetrating oil such as Kroil. (PB-blaster and liquid wrench are poor excuses for penetrating oils and WD-40 is not a penetrating oil) let the parts soak for a few hours and you can probably just remove the parts. I would then suggest a complete disassembly and properly clean the parts and remove the rust.
