Standard Chief not paying out correctly...

I have a Standard Chief nickel machine. It pays out correctly most of the time. However, on a few occassions it payed out when it shouldn't have and vice versa. Also, I hit the jackpit and payed out 3 coins.

I'm a total nob. Is there an easy way to fix this? I'm guessing not but I had to ask.

Check if the payout slides are jaming when the pay out is not right. They also can be worn or the payout fingers are bad. You can send me the machine for repair if you like. located in New Jersey.

The slides are where the payout coins are held at the bottom of the coin tube. you should buy a service and parts manual for your machine if you want to fix it.

Try Ebay auctions or Amizon on the internet. Look for a jennings manual. Most all jennings mecks are the same basic design.

przytula, until you find the manual you are looking for, you might be able to figure things out by looking at the photos of the slot machine I'm currently working on. The machine pictured is a Mills machine, but the payout slides, fingers and other major parts are very similar.

There's an entry specifically related to the payout slide removal, but that process is almost the last step in the disassembly of the mechanism so you'll probably need to start with an earlier chapter. Once you can identify the coin tube, finding the slides is a snap.

when i look at all those parts, whether in a slot machine or anything mechanical, i wonder who the heck designed all that stuff orginally (without computers) and how did they know it would work. it's just amazing.
