Mills HiTop Reel Assembly Removal

I need to remove the reel assembly form my machine to replace a missing piece thats being blocked by it. So, can anyone tell me preferrably with pictures how to remove the reel assembly from my Hi-Top ?

Cycle the mechanism and stop the clock fan immediately. Leave a screw driver or something in the fan so it can't complete the cycle. Unhook the 3 springs that go to the reel stop levers. Remove the reel brakes if it still has them. Unscrew the 2 screws at each end of the rod that runs through the reel bundle. Some rods are screwed in and some are just pushed in. If there is a slot at the end of the rod, unscrew it. While holding the reel bundle on top of the center reel, pull out the rod going through the reel bundle. While still holding the bundle, lift up and at the same time pull the reel stop levers forward and out of the reel bundle. Reverse the process to put it back in. You can leave the clock in the stopped position until you put the bundle back in or if not, cycle the mechanism and stop the clock again when ready to put it back. Sorry, no pictures but it should be pretty easy.

Sounds good and reel breaks ?

Just so I know if I need to replace em or not.

Reel breaks are the wires which are held on by a screw and a wing nut and ride on the hub of each reel. These allow you to slow down the reels, by tightening the wing nuts to put more pressure on the hub, so the reels stop arms are not beating the bundle to death. The reels should almost come to a stop before the reel stop arm comes down and finally stops the reel. These are frequently missing on a lot of mechanisms but easy to find to replace.

If it's what I have in mind then I believe I am missing them, thse would generaly be found in a vertical position on the back of the mech right ?

Plus I don't recall seeing any wind nuts on my mech.

Looks like I need to get more than I originally anticipated.

Ok, so I got the reels off ok and got the piece put on that I wanted, but in doing so I think I got some dirt in somewhere because now the one reel spins a little slow. In any case, I plan on getting the thing fully cleaned at some point so I wont worry to much about that right now. I also confirmed what the reel breaks are and that I do not have them but luckily I found a set on eBay for $12 shipped.

In any case, I'm not even sure how they really go on there so I'll probably hold on to them til I get the mech cleaned etc and just have the "restorer" put em on along with nay other pieces I may need but ya, looks like I'm good to go for right now so thx.

I know why you only have excerpts in there but it cuts out on I'm guessing whats sort of important. It rides on the... "switch to something new".
