Jennings Standard Chief Tic-Tac_Toe

Postby Arjan61 » Wed Oct 25, 2023 12:46 am

Purchased a Standard Chief with a top label Tic-Tac-Toe, on the payout card there is no info on the T-T-T payout. On the reels there is no T-T-T image but inside the machine it is labeled as a Tic-Tac-Toe machine.
Machine numbers are matching with this label so I don't understand anymore. Are maybe the reels changed? or was T-T-T just a sort of type of this machine.
I am however very happy with this machine because of the 3 I have from Jennings this one runs so smooth and never got stuck.
Just want to know what I bought and in the Netherlands here is not much to be found and I think sellers just combine parts to sell a working machine.

THE TIC-TAC-TOE AWARD WAS ON A DECAL THAT WENT ON THE JACKPOT WINDOW. HARD TO FIND NOW.

If it is a decal that is needed, you might contact Scott Mathison on Facebook. He has a contact that makes decals. Hope this helps.

Tic tac toe is a special award for hitting the
Tic
……Tac
…………Toe
When the symbols are in the diagonal positions on the wheels.

Have you checked the payouts?
If the payout discs support the diagonal TTT payouts, recommend you get the decal for the JP glass and new reel strips with TTT superimposed on the bar symbols.
If they do not, recommend you simply replace the marque sign and know that the machine started out as a TTT but may have been modified at some point.

The Early Jennings TIC TAC TOE Machines (Standard Chief & Early Sun Chiefs) did NOT have TIC TAC TOE reel strips. Your machine appears to be 100% correct.

Let’s not jump to conclusions here.
Cannot say this slot is 100% original from a single photo without closer examination; most slots found today have had something done to them in the past 75+ years.
Early Standard Chiefs would not have the TTT feature; TTT was introduced after the Standard Chief was already in service. I have a copy of the ad which Jennings used to introduce the TTT feature (on a Standard Chief); it shows the same marque and has a decal in the JP window but, unfortunately, the bars cannot be discerned; one would think the reel strips would conform to what’s on the decal.
By the time the Sun Chief came out, TTT had been out for some time and had become very popular; one would think TTT versions of the Sun Chief would be clearly identified, but that’s not always the case.
The Standard Chief had a long production run, most likely with variations; don’t assume the subject machine is an early one without knowing serial numbers.
I’d still go with my recommendations posted above without additional info:
What is the case serial number?
What is mech serial number?
Replacement reel strips?
Have the payouts been checked including TTT?
They are found with several variations.
Here’s one with an early serial number from an acknowledged expert who states these are original reel strips, award card and marque:

Here's a shot of my 10c "Chinese Front" Club Chief with Tic-Tac-Toe feature (which works just fine), so you can see what that special jackpot sticker mentioned above is all about. With TTT, if the jackpot bars appear in any diagonal or "V-shaped" pattern in the reel window, you get an 18-coin payout.

marsonion; very nice Chinese Front.

It should be noted that on your machine, the TTT feature is announced on the marque and explained on the decal; there is no reference to TTT on the award glass and the bar symbols are standard Bell Fruit on the award glass, decal and, undoubtedly, on the reel strips (no TTT superimposed).
A lot of variations within model runs in how the TTT feature was advertised to draw a player into pulling the handle!
