Jennings Slot Machine on free play

We have a Jennings slot machine that is on free play, can someone tell us how to get it off and accept nickels. I can keep pulling the handle without putting any coins in. Plays great.

Have you checked to see if the coin sensing pin is touching the nickel when you put it in there?

If the coin sensing pin isn’t the problem, you then probably want to check to see if the coins are advancing across the front of the escalator when you cycle the machine. If the coins don’t move across the bicycle chain in the escalator, you may have a problem with one of your two sprockets in the escalator, such that one of them is broken and not functioning properly.

Okay, thanks so much for the help. At first, the third reel would not lock up, took the mech out, sprayed it wd40. After 20/30 plays the reels locked up like it should. We do not see any broken piece or anything looks like its broken or broke off. If you apply a little pressure to the chain then the coins move across ???? Is there an adjustment for the chain. We purchased this machine from the late Bob Levy some 20+ years ago. I know he would not sell anything that was not correct. We might have played it 20 times in the pass 20 years. I think most of them are just gummed up and dirty from just being stored over the years. Thanks again for the help.

CHECK THE OPERATING ARM RELEASE LEVER AKA THE BANANA. IT IS ON RIGHT SIDE FRAME VERY FIRST PART. IT HAS A LG. SHOULDER SCREW THAT MAY BE GUMMED UP SPRAY WITH THE WD THEN BACK OFF THE SCREW AND PUT SOME 10W30 ON THE SHOULDER AND TIGHTEN IT BACK DOWN. THE OTHER THING IS TO SEE IF THE PULL BACK SPRING IS NOT BROKEN THAT WILL CAUSE IT TO FREE PLAY ALSO.

Wow....was that big screw froze. let it soak over night with wd40. The screw moves freely now, the handle goes down and just snaps back up and does not activate the reels ?????.

NEXT STEP CHECK THE MAIN OPERATING ARM (PORK CHOP) SEE IF IT HAS THE LIFT DOG ON THE END, MAKE SURE IT HAS A LIFT PIN, THEN CHECK IF IT HITS THE LIFT PIN ON THE JOHNSON BAR (BIG HEAVY BAR IN BACK) IF NOT IT WILL NEED ADJ. ! LOOSEN THE SCREW AND NUT THAT HOLDS THE LIFT PIN IN PLACE, THEN TAP THE PIN BACK TO THE CENTER OF THE MECH A 64TH AT A TIME TEST IT AFTER EACH ADJUSTMENT UNTIL IT RAISES UP. AT TIMES BOTH THE DOG AND PIN GET WORN OUT. THAT MAY ALSO BE AN ISSUE. DO THAT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.
