Mills 25 Cent Spring Problem

The bottommost payout slide spring is getting caught on the vertical fingers of my Mills 25 Cent machine. This is a reproduction machine. Sometimes two vertical fingers catch it, but most times it is just the plum finger. I have attached a picture of the spring. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
