Absolute Original?

Won't take $5K+ for a misreprestorated Jennings Triplex which he declaims is an absolute "original," 'cause it resembles a picture in "Slot Machines on Parade," a book which parades misreprestorated slot machines:

He is an idiot because he didn't take your offer? There must be a lot of idiots out there then because a lot of people didn't take my offers on a lot of machines. We shouldn't be slamming other collectors because they aren't as well read or experianced as some of us are. I was offered the machine also and turned it down, and the guy told me he had gotten slammed by somebody by the name of George because it had been repainted. I advise a lot of people on machines but I don't ridicule them because they haven't been in the hobby as long as I have and may not know as much as I do about certain machines. I also have a beef with collectors who misrepresent there machines and do or should know better.

At least the seller posted the comment;
Usually, when you point out to a seller that their machine is not all that they think it is, all you get is a polite "Thank You' (if that),
and nobody else ever sees the comment.

I was very surprised he posted my comments, especially since in his return email, he was still convinced it was orignal but he did except the fact the escalator glass was a replacement. And the reason he felt this way was because of the Slots On Parade book. The same book which shows a Mills floor model gum vender with a bottom repro cabinet and a Jennings Little Duke vender mounted in the cabinet. While the book has some really great machines in it, it also has incorret ones and is not a reference book. But more than that, you don't have to be a slot expert to see that machine doesn't match at all. I have never seen a machine where the paint is almost perfect but the reel strips are stained. Or that the cabinet sides have staining from the carraige bolts. If the original paint were that good, the entire machine would be that good.

The guy posted the email he received from George and I wouldn't say George slammed him. George was just telling him the facts. The seller was kind enough to post the email so all could read.

Unfortunately, a lot of people think anything that is in a printed book is gospel and as most of us know that is simply not true.

Regarding him being an idiot for not selling the machine for $5K. If I had that machine I wouldn't sell it for $5K.

Meh. Who can tell whether the item moved or not? Looks too flaky to call one way or the other. I feel sort of sorry for whoever might think he "won" this one... I'll bet he has a pretty long row to hoe. I started gibbering my annoyance when I saw this interesting bidding trajectory grind to a screeching halt on account of a "reserve not met" at $5K+ for an auction with a starting bid of less than a dollar. Was the seller trying to sell the item or just waste a lot of people's time? I didn't create this arena, I only observe it. I wasn't a participant in this.

But what finally hacked me off was seeing that Watlingboy had very gently and very generously provided expert advice to the seller... which was then duly posted by the seller (so far, so good)... yet this advice was then practically ignored and even mocked by the seller! Watlingboy all but pointed to the 'Made in China" tag on the paint job, yet the seller replies with something like "Yeah, but I still firmly believe that fire engines are green because this Dr. Seuss book says so."

Pardon my impatient outburst. But at least this thread got us talking about... something.

My post was directed to the person who called the guy an 'idiot'. Misinformed? Yes, but we shouldn't be calling each other names because maybe we don't agree on a price or condition of a machine. If you think a machine is overpriced, bad description or whatever, walk away. I only heard one side of the story and that was from the seller and he thought the person he was emailed from was rude, I shouldn't have used the word slammed. I think the seller probably heard the truth about his machine and didn't want to accept it. He was in way too deep on the machine paying $7000.00 for it. He more than likely got his information from the person he bought it from.
On another subject why am I getting a 10 identical emails about this subject?
