Shipman Spin-It

ebay item 111029749764 is a Shipman Spin-It.

I've seen a bunch of these and have 3 or 4 laying around here.
I don't think I've ever seen a red one like this or one with anything other than a horse race reel strip.

Seller claims the paint is original.
Looks like someone cut up a Pace slot machine reel strip to replace the horse strip.

I suppose it could have been done a long time ago by some operator trying to freshen up the equipment.

The red hammertone color on the Shipman "Spin-It" is correct. The majority of these machines are usually found in hammertone green, but the company made them in several colors. Two other colors they came in, are blue and tan. My green one is mint-in-the-box, and nickel play. They only came in two denominations. Penny play vends peanuts, and nickel play vends almonds. They also made two case variations. The eBay one we are talking about here, is the standard model, with the flat plunger sticking out of the top. The other model is slightly wider, and has a built-in napkin holder on either side. Due to the space taken for the napkin feature, the mechanism has a design change, and there is a round plunger which is offset more toward the center of the roof casting, and has a squared hump that it protrudes through. I have two with the napkin feature. One is green, and the other, blue. Both have original paint. All variations of this machine, only came with a HorseRace reel strip. I have repro horse strips, if anyone needs them. That pieced fruit strip in the one on eBay, is definately an aftermarket placement. Hope this clears things up.

I have run across quite a few Shipmans - all of the ones I've seen were green and in mint almost unused condition, maybe they didn't sell too well.

The only one besides mine that I saw was the same green. Does anyone have any suggestions for finding a key for this thing, or will I just need to drill it out and replace the lock?

dont drill the lock a lock smith can get it opened and cut a key, I would never drill out an original lock.

Ok, Thanks. I guess even though it's pretty old, they probably do have a way to do it. Other than the key everything seems to work on mine and the paint and horse reel are good. The decals, esp the one below the coin slot are pretty chipped up through.
