Can someone date my War Eagle?

It is a nickel machine and the serial number is 402114

Per Bueschel's Volume 3 with all of the serials, bit of conflict in the late 390's thru 407's but best date would be 1938. Hope that helps - would be a late war Eagle.

Thanks for the reply. Do you have dates for Watling or Pace? I have a nickel treasury with a serial number of L75474 on the casting and 75474 on the wood. I have a pace comet quarter machine with a serial number of FCC48394M in the casting. I also have a watling dime machine which I think might be a blue seal that had some type of vendor on the front ( whatever it had is missing) with a serial number of T54832 in the casting.

Glad to help though I should have directed you to a link on this site with great info - if you register to the Coin Op Registry, you can look up all of the serial numbers including the Bueschel list from Vol 3 and later in the Coin Slot magazine. And contributors from this blog. So Watling Treasury 75474 is 1937 (I have Treasury 75938 - interesting!). And your Watling Twin Jackpot T54832 is 1933 (and I have 55674). And the Pace FCC48394M is 1940. Here are the pictures of my Treasury (like yours, a nice American Coin) and of the Twin JP Watling - mine does not have vendor but JP same as yours? My Treasury is for sale if someone wants a terrific fully restored Treasury by the way.

Bob - simply gorgeous machine. Anxious to see the other Watling - I expect it is a basic Watling Twin Jackpot with the vendor front missing. Can tell you more from the picture. And your Pace serial falls in an interesting range - right there with All Star Comets and Deluxe Comets and the Kitty machines (too bad you don't have a Pace Kitty!) Pace had all of those letters before and after the serial which are not fully understood. Your picture might answer some questions.

Flip, the Treasury was bought at a local estate sale a couple of years ago. The newest coin in it was from the early sixties. It also had some buffalo nickels and war-time nickels in it. It appears to be pretty much all original with the exception of some cheap sheet metal addition (like an old coffee can) to feed the jackpot. I'm going to try to add pics of the other machines as soon as I can figure out how to sinc my phone to my photobucket account. Also can't get the stupid smart phone to link up with the computer. As far as the Pace goes, I have no idea which model it is. I've looked online several times to try to find a picture of one identical to mine, but have been unsuccessful. Hopefully when I get some pictures up, someone will be able to positively identify it for me. I just bought the War Eagle and it appears to have an old amateur repaint and a replaced lock, but other than that it appears to be completely original.

Found an old pic of the Pace. Also found pics of the amateur repairs of the Treasury. I don't have pics of the War Eagle or the other Watling yet.

Very interesting design of the Pace '3 Star Comet'. Don't remember seeing the cherry logo before. This appears to be a war-time production, judging from
the reel strip lettering. The closest resemblance to this model, is the Pace/Ace '8 Star Bell'. I have some pix of odd-ball Pace machines, that I got from my
late-great friend, Jim 'Mr.Pace' Waters, many years ago. Oh where is Jim when we need him? Or even Dick Bueschel, for that matter! So, for the time being,
let me go out on a limb, and call this model, Pace 25c '3 Star Cherry Comet'. Now all we have to do, is wait for another Pace expert to say otherwise.

I may have identified the Pace machine. I got a list of serial numbers from member nvmos2 (Jim) and was just looking at the Pace numbers. I found two that are serialed near mine. They are FCC48450M and FCC48477M and are both identified as 1938 Comet Cherry Front 3-5-5 Play. Could this be what I have? Is it rare? There are only two on the entire list.
