You and other members of the 'COPS' are very quick to SLAM slot machines that are not correct. I find it funny that on your own listing http://www.ebay.com/itm/231199747921, you fail to SLAM your own machine. As a COP, shouldn’t you be held to a high standard? Why don't you mention how the machine was incorrectly restored in the wrong colors? The whole COPS thing is a JOKE!

I normally try to ignore childish posts but since this one was directed at me I guess I will address it.

1. I see you just registered today and this is your first post. Apparently you have completely scoured the forum and found where I am constantly SLAMMING machines. Please point out a single post where I SLAMMED a machine which had a different paint scheme than the factory colors?

2. Did you even bother to go to the COPS website and read the code of conduct? If you had it is primarily directed at people selling total reproductions as originals and/or people modifying existing machines to make them a more desirable machine.

3. Did you bother to read the FAQ at the COPS website? Painting is actually addressed.

You can if you want but there is really no need to do so. In many cases, people who restore machines have taken great liberty with the paint scheme. The most common example is the Rol-A-Top Bird of Paradise. Since the paint scheme is obvious and not hidden there is really no need to point it out. Of course, there is no harm in doing so either. Of course, if you advertise the machine as restored back to factory original then the paint scheme and colors should match the factory colors as close as possible. Unless you have the exact color formula it is impossible to match the color 100%.

To be honest, the fact that it was not painted as bone stock original never really occurred to me to point it out in the listing. I never stated it was restored to original condition. Frankly, I don't think most people really care and I personally don't think it hurts the value of a Castle Front. We are talking a Castle Front here.

I assume whoever restored it did not use the exact same oil and grease on the mechanism. I guess I should have pointed that out as well. I also did not examine every single screw to make sure it is bone stock original.

COPS is a relatively new organization. We are trying to establish some "guidelines" on selling. If you want to poke fun at this effort then that is your prerogative.

Oh, and an FYI, the following is now in the listing.

I forgot to mention that the machine DOES have the following parts (commonly missing on the reproductions)


1. Horizontal check detection lever
2. Vertical check detection lever
3. Vertical finger lockout hardware which engages when a trade check is used
4. Handle pump
5. Back door and back door lock. Reproductions rarely have original back doors and locks since these are expensive and original back door are somewhat hard to find.

The serial number on this machine is 410731 and this machine are registered in the Coin Op Registry (CoinOpRegistry)

In addition, if you look at the photos you will see it has the correct handle for a five cent Castle Front.
The machine also pays on two cherries (not one like the vast majority of the reproduction machines do).

I indicated the machine has been restored. Like almost all restored slot machines the paper reel strips and paper award card are replacements.

Also, the cash box is a replacement. Very common since the cash box is the first thing stolen back in the day.

Someone asked if the machine were restored to factory original colors.

The answer is no. The paint scheme that was used is a very popular one that people who restore Castle Fronts use. It is not uncommon for different paint schemes to be used when restoring machines. A very popular book called "Slots on Parade" shows many examples of machines that were painted differently than the way the came from the factory.

It would not be difficult to repaint the machine to factory original colors if one so desired. The Castle Front is one of the easier machines to paint. Personally, I don't think doing so would increase the value though.

Go to AntiqueSlotMachinePriceGuide site and do a search on Castle Front to see what the factory original colors would be.

I guess I should thank you since after I added the above I have sold several subscriptions to the price guide. That was a good way to get some free advertising.

I suppose you also think I set my starting bid too high as well.

Since you are so knowledgable on machines, maybe you should also try and post something a little more positive. Perhaps answer newbies questions on machines.

seen many Castle Fronts with this color combination, and nobody says word-one.
If he is such an expert, perhaps he can join-up with the Vegas Butcher, and show

You guys really crack me up. Maybe I was burned by the Vegas Butcher 12 years ago. Oh, but I wasn’t. I’m also not a newb. I bought my first slot back in the mid 80’s. And great job CoinOpBuyer (registered with Ebay since March 2008), with the stalking Mr. Whosignedmeup. Maybe I was a little rude, a little harsh but let’s face it, the yellow squares on the castle front was never done by Mills. It was done by the company Royal Bell out of Denver, in mass quantities back in the 90’s.
